Our kids holiday club offers a wide range of activities for children aged 8–12, including sports, creative sessions, group games and off-site trips. Each day is structured to keep children active, engaged and involved.
My child doesn’t enjoy sport, will they still enjoy the club?
Absolutely. While we offer plenty of physical activities, our programme also includes creative arts, team challenges and interactive sessions, ensuring every child finds something they enjoy.
Do children need to bring any equipment?
We provide all equipment needed for activities, so there’s nothing extra you need to arrange.
Each day, your child should bring:
- A packed lunch (nut-free)
- Snacks for the day
- A refillable water bottle
- Suitable clothing for indoor and outdoor activities
- Swimming kit (if applicable)
- Sun protection (e.g. sunscreen, hat)
This helps ensure your child is comfortable, prepared, and ready to take part in everything throughout the day.
What do I need if my child is swimming?
Swimming sessions are a popular part of the holiday club, and we’ll provide full details in advance if your child is scheduled to take part.
Please ensure your child brings:
- Swimwear
- A towel
- A swim hat (or long hair tied back)
- Goggles (optional)
All children are supervised at all times, and swimming is organised in a safe, structured environment.
If your child would prefer not to take part, alternative activities will always be available.
Food & Drinks
Should I pack a lunch and snacks?
Yes, children should bring a packed lunch, snacks and a refillable water bottle each day.
We have scheduled break times throughout the day, including:
- A morning snack break
- A lunch break
- An afternoon snack break
Providing enough food helps keep children energised and ready to take part in all activities.
Please ensure all food is nut-free, as we operate a nut-free holiday club.
Are nut products allowed?
No, we are a nut-free holiday club.
For the safety of all children, we do not allow any food containing nuts or that may contain traces of nuts on site. This helps us create a safe and inclusive environment for children with allergies.
We kindly ask parents to check labels carefully before packing food.
What should I include in a packed lunch?
We recommend a balanced, filling lunch that will keep your child energised throughout the day.
A typical packed lunch might include:
- Sandwiches, wraps or pasta
- Fruit and healthy snacks
- Yoghurt or similar items
- A refillable water bottle
Please avoid:
- Foods containing nuts
- Fizzy drinks
- Excessive sweets
Packing a well-balanced lunch helps children stay focused, active and comfortable throughout their time at the club.
Health & Safety
What happens if my child is ill or has an accident?
We understand this is an important concern for parents, and our team is fully prepared to respond.
All sessions are supervised by staff who are first-aid trained and experienced in supporting children. Most incidents are minor (such as small cuts or bumps), and these are dealt with quickly and appropriately on site.
If your child becomes unwell or has a more serious accident, we will contact you immediately and keep you informed every step of the way.
Can my child bring medication?
Yes. All medication should be clearly labelled and handed to a member of staff on arrival. It will be stored safely, with instructions recorded on the medical form.
What if my child carries an EpiPen or has medical needs?
We regularly support children with allergies and medical needs.
Please let us know in advance via the medical form, email or phone. If your child requires an EpiPen, we ask that you bring two clearly labelled EpiPens in a sealed, see-through bag.
Our staff are trained to respond in an emergency, so your child will be supported safely throughout their time at the club.
Do you have insurance?
Yes, Horizon Kids Club is fully covered by public liability insurance, providing reassurance while your child takes part in all activities.
Documentation can be made available on request.
What if my child has an allergy?
Your child’s safety is very important to us.
If your child has any allergies, please provide full details during booking and let us know before they attend. This allows our team to plan ahead, brief staff, and ensure the right support is in place.
If your child requires medication (such as an inhaler or EpiPen), please ensure it is clearly labelled and handed to a member of staff on arrival.
Our team is trained to respond to allergies and administer emergency medication where needed. While we take every precaution to reduce risks, including operating as a nut-free holiday club, we cannot guarantee a completely allergen-free environment.
If your child has a severe allergy, we recommend contacting us in advance so we can discuss their needs and make suitable arrangements.
Staff & Supervision
What are your staff-to-child ratios?
We operate at a 1:8 staff-to-child ratio, which allows us to provide close supervision and support throughout the day.
This means children are always within sight of staff, whether they are taking part in activities, moving between sessions or attending off-site trips. It also allows our team to give children the attention they need to feel comfortable, included and confident.
Where additional support is required, ratios may be adjusted to ensure every child is appropriately supported.
Who are your staff?
Our team is made up of experienced individuals from backgrounds in childcare, education, sports coaching and creative activities.
They are selected not only for their experience, but for their ability to create a calm, supportive and well-managed environment where children feel comfortable taking part.
All staff are DBS-checked, first-aid trained and receive ongoing safeguarding training. With a clear team structure in place, children are supervised, supported and encouraged throughout every part of the day.
Settling in & Behaviour
What if my child is nervous or unhappy at drop-off?
It’s completely normal for children to feel a little unsure on their first day.
Our team is experienced in helping children settle in gently, introducing them to activities, encouraging them to join in, and helping them feel comfortable at their own pace.
If your child is finding it difficult, we’ll keep a close eye on them and can update you on how they’re getting on. In most cases, children settle quickly once they begin taking part and meeting others.
You’re always welcome to contact us during the day if you’d like reassurance.
How do you manage behaviour?
We aim to create a positive and respectful environment where all children can enjoy their day.
Our approach focuses on:
- Clear expectations
- Encouragement and positive reinforcement
- Helping children understand how their behaviour affects others
At the start of their time with us, children are guided through simple rules to help keep everyone safe and ensure activities run smoothly.
If a child needs support, a member of staff will speak with them calmly and help them rejoin the group. If concerns continue, we will keep parents informed and work together to support the child.
In rare cases where behaviour may put others at risk, further steps may be taken in line with our policies.
Special Educational Needs & Inclusion
Can my child with additional needs attend?
We aim to create an inclusive environment where every child feels welcome and supported.
If your child has additional needs, please share full details during the booking process and contact us in advance at 01442 601402 or [email protected]. This allows our team to plan ahead and consider how best to support your child.
Our staff are experienced and caring, and we will always do our best to create a safe and positive experience. Where possible, we work closely with parents to understand each child’s needs and make suitable arrangements.
If your child requires one-to-one or additional support, we kindly ask that you arrange for their own care worker to attend with them. This ensures they receive the support they need throughout the day.
If we feel we are unable to safely meet a child’s needs within our standard staffing ratios, we will discuss this with you and explore appropriate options. This is to ensure the wellbeing and safety of your child, other children, and our team.
Do you provide 1:1 support?
We do not routinely provide 1:1 support within our standard staffing model.
If your child requires additional or one-to-one support, we kindly ask that you arrange for their own care worker to attend with them. Please contact us before booking so we can discuss your child’s needs and ensure the right arrangements are in place.
Where a child attends with a care worker, we will require relevant documentation, such as a DBS check and photo identification.
We are happy to work with you to ensure your child has a positive and well-supported experience at the club.
